SIforAGE partner Sue Ballyn, Founder and Co-director of the Australian Studies Centre at the University of Barcelona, made a presentation entitled “Crime against the elderly: human rights and justice” at the Fifth Asian Conference on Cultural Studies 2015 that took place in May at the Kobe Art Center (Japan).

Professor Ballyn presented the results of her work on elder abuse. She underlined the fact that very few cases of elder abuse are brought into court due to feelings of shame and fear on the part of the victims

Professor Ballyn’s presentation dealt also with elderly LGBT people and the fact that solitude and denial of their sexuality is more prevalent in this group of individuals and therefore more research and social attention is needed.
